For the 497th Time: End the War on Drugs!
Think about it. think of the $$$$billions spent on this wasted effort every year. Think about what else could be done with that money. And without a war on drugs, the price of drugs will plummet. Cartels will self destruct. We would no longer lead the world in incarcerations. Productive lives could be reclaimed. Sounds good to me.
At this point, I'm willing to consider absolutely any option that might make things better in the USA.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, I was speaking to a teacher last night who was terrified by the prospect; she said that kids would be coming to school stoned out of their gourds and not a thing the administration could do about it. Hmmm. Hadn't thought of THAT!
Then, there is the addiction issue. Because clinicians who specialize in addictions know for a fact that marijuana addiction is widespread among users. Because few users believe that addiction is possible, it's tough to shake.
The War on Drugs rivals the Iraq War as a futile expense of taxpayer money. I've never heard anyone claim that it's working. Like the Iraq War, now that we're in, we don't know how to get out...
ReplyDeleteNance; I really don't know why the teacher would think that? It simply doesn't make sense. Did she explain why she thought the kids were going to be stoned...any more than they are now? And what does the teacher suggest as an alternative? More prisons?
ReplyDeleteWell, nicotine and alcohol are also addictive and plenty of users don't believe it...
I'll trade addiction anytime for the wasted $billions and wasted lives that the WOD has caused.
Instead, how about $millions being spent on drug awareness programs? Sounds like money well spent.
Did I sound cranky? I guess I did. Sorry. It's probably because when I read about people, such as your teacher, I am upset that the status quo seems to be OK with them.
ReplyDeleteI admit that I don't know all I should about the problem, but I do know the WOD doesn't work. Has never worked. And will never work, even if we throw more $billions at it and more lives. What truly baffles me are the 'righteous' who claim it will work...it just needs more time.
