Getting hot!

A windy day has arrived, driving the temperatures back up (48°). Just imagine the billions of pounds of air that surround us, moving violently, the atomic particles that make up that air, colliding with each other. That little fact; molecules of “air” rubbing together in the wind creates friction, which creates heat…made me into a fan of the world of physics. Fascinating!

I received an e-mail from our friend Julia the other day and you need to read it…it’s a column written by Garrison Keillor, one of my favorites.

Garrison is good! I know this column is supposed to be humorous and it is…but I sometimes think the same thing and I’m serious!

And speaking of the world news, I just found this great quotation from the author, Isaac Asimov; “Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.”
Also, as I was looking at the news, I found a new newsreader, Bloglines. I haven’t been all that happy with Google’s format for news reading and was hoping to find something to replace Pluck.

It’s all about linkage…I was reading an article about a new blogging service initiated by 6 Apart. Vox is the name of their new and free (of course) blogging center. I suppose that name came from the Latin, Vox Populi, or the voice of the people. It looked pretty good so I subscribed…and then I saw an ad for Bloglines, linked to it and subscribed to that one as well. A link from Bloglines brought me to Wikimedia for images. That made me take a look at my own collection of images; which is a mess! I was using Irfanview Thumbnails to look through my collection and I see that I have all sorts of files in the wrong categories. It’s almost as bad as the cardboard boxes of photos I have in the closet. Then, checking out the Irfanview website, I see that the current version is 3.99 and so I have to see if I’m current. I’m not; I’m at 3.98 but that’s not enough to warrant updating this morning.

More about Blogger and Vox…Blogger (Now owned by Google) is probably the largest of the free blogging services and has been around for quite awhile. But it hasn’t changed much in that time. Who is going to spend a lot of development money on a free service? It looks like Vox just might have an edge now if they can deliver dependable service as well as fresh images and clever software. Blogger is still frustrating a lot of users with its inability to consistently deliver (upload) images to the blog.
