From the pages of the AARP Bulletin

Other economic news…Half of our country’s workers lack pensions or aren’t adequately saving for retirement. (we have a negative savings rate in the country right now)

16% of the national economy is consumed by health care costs.

The number of people without health insurance is over 46.6 million.

Per capita health care spending in the USA is $6,102 versus compared to other industrialized nations; Canada, $3,165. Australia, $3,120. France, $3,159. Great Britain, $$2,508.

So you would (or should) expect that we’re on top of things, healthwise… but our life expectancy is lower (77.5) and our infant mortality rate (6.9 per 1,000) is higher than all four of the above mentioned countries.
Way to go!
