Death has come once more to the Federated church. Two members died over the weekend. Sad. But inevitable. This church, all churches, attracts very few new and younger members. I see the congregation dwindling over the years ahead until there are not enough of them (us) to support ourselves. (But, to prove me wrong and perhaps far too pessimistic, two new members were baptized on Sunday and they were from our youth group. Two have left us and two joined us. The score is even.)
It’s happening all over the world, we’re certainly not alone in this. And it’s the same with civic organizations, the charitable ones. They are all filled with older people and that’s not a good thing. As a rule; as you age you become focused on keeping things just as they were. No change is wanted! Thank you very much! Yet if we don’t embrace change, we will die that much sooner. Yes, that’s my belief; in fact I was thinking the other day that one of the things I would miss when I die…would be the opportunity to think and to embrace new ideas.
