Let it snow

It's a little after 4 in the morning and the truck scales at Truckee are a cold and lonely place. The lights are always on so it's a good place to watch the snow falling...

(I tried taking a screen shot of the video, hoping it would capture the moment...but that didn't work. All I had was a black image? I guess I will try something else and in the meantime, you can click on this link and that will take you to the CalTrans video page. )

I give up. I tried all sorts of ways to get a video screen shot of the snow and wind. You'll just have to take my word for it. It was looking pretty bleak up there at 4 in the morning.

I guess I wouldn't like living in the snow...I don't know, maybe I would. At any rate, it is beautiful and peaceful to watch. It makes me miss Northern California. Had many good times there. I also loved looking at Pismo Beach, Atascadero area...another place we used to live near.

  2. Oh, it's fun to watch! I guess I can identify with the Truckee scales; I had to pass that way many times in the winter. And from the scales, heading east, it's all downhill! Yahoo!

How do you do your screen shots? I just tried it on my computer with the Whitmore Grade camera up and it worked... Got the picture of the foggy and snowy road!

  4. I use SnagIt, a pretty darn good program, but if there were a way to capture the video, I couldn't find it. And you did it, how?

  5. For most screen shots I just use the "Print Screen" button on my keyboard, then paste it into my graphics program (I use Paint Shop Pro) and then crop, edit or whatever and save. I've not tried to save out a video.. Yet.. Give me time, I'll manage it one of these days... lol

  6. Found a website that explains an easy way to get a screenshot off the Media player... Here's what it says:
For Windows Media Player, you have to disable Hardware Acceleration. You can do this in Windows Media Player 6.4 and later by clicking on View -> Options and moving the Hardware Acceleration slider to None. You can do this in Windows Media Player 7 by clicking on Tools -> Options, going to the Performance tab, moving the Hardware Acceleration slider to None, and restarting Windows Media Player. Now you may make take a screenshot by pressing the [ALT + PRNTSCRN] combination. You can paste this screenshot into any graphics editing program (e.g. MS Paintbrush) and save the file. When you are done taking screenshots, you should move the Hardware Acceleration slider back to Full because this makes videos play smoother and look better.

Check my blog... I just posted and added a screenshot from the Whitmore Grade camera.

  7. Print Screen. Of course... That would have done it. But for now, 'Print Screen' calls up the SnagIt program. I guess I am stuck unless I can find another hotkey for SnagIt to use
